Looking forward to 2020!

Its rainy and snowy now in BC, but lets have a look at the next 12 months of Geocaching – plan ahead now!

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3! Souvenir Challenge – December 11th to January 1st

Earn a souvenir if you geocache two days per week from December 11 –  January 1. Only 6 Geocaches total to score a sweet souvenir!

(And yes, Adventure Labs count!)

Out with the old, in with the New! – December 31st – January 1st

You are invited to say “Goodbye” to 2019 and “Hello” to 2020 with two new geocaching souvenirs. Find a geocache or attend an event on December 31 to earn the Goodbye 2019 souvenir. Then, kick off the New Year with the Hello 2020 souvenir, which can also be earned by finding a geocache or attending an event on January 1. Easy Peasy.

Community Celebration Events

This cache type was originally known as the Lost and Found Event Cache. It was created for events that were hosted by geocachers from April 30, 2010 to May 3, 2010 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of geocaching. Just 362 Lost and Found Events were held, so a very limited number of cachers earned the icon. We’re excited that many thousands more cachers will have a chance to celebrate a big anniversary and get the redesigned icon in 2020 to celebrate the 20th anniversary!

Watch for these events at your geolocation to earn this rare icon type.

Geocaching 20th Anniversary Celebration in Seattle – August 15th, 2020

This is only the START of the big news for BC Geocachers! (But we will do the big reveal at the end) 2020 is the 20th anniversary of Geocaching, and HQ is hosting a PARTY! A BIG PARTY! (With an icon for your stats of course!)

Set your travel compass to Seattle August 15th 2020 – There are already over 3200 Will Attend logs! GC896PK is the code…Looking forward to seeing you there!

WSGA’s Going Ape X – August 16th, 2020

Another astoundingly rare Icon type – there are only 2 APE caches in the world! One is in Brazil – the other in our own Pacific Northwest. This means if you happen to be in the area for the Big 20th anniversary celebration, it makes sense to visit the APE Event.

This MEGA event will be held the day AFTER the Geocaching 20th Anniversary Celebration in Seattle and is only a short drive away. Walk the Tunnel of Light, meet Signal the geocaching mascot and dance with the Apes that inhabit the area. Plus score yourself the APE icon! If you have already logged the APE cache , sign up for the GCD hike – to one of the oldest geocaches still active.

(No GC Code yet, stay tuned)

AND FINALLY – THE BIG EVENT

GeoWoodstock XVIII – The Fraser Valley, Canada – August 22nd, 2020

Canada’s FIRST GeoWoodstock, eh!

Traditionally held in the United States, this is the first time its been held anywhere else – and its going to be in the Abbotsford Tradex Building (and other local locations) – right here in BC. The GC code for the event is GC86VDF.

Held the weekend directly after the 20th Anniversary and Ape Mega events, this is a premier MEGA event with a week of celebrations and events around the Pacific Northwest! Founded in 2003 and originally held in a field, GeoWoodstock aims to bring geocachers together from all over.

Explore, Discover, and Connect in the footsteps of fur traders, gold seekers, and lumberjacks!

Visit the GeoWoodstock XVIII website to sign up, get travel information, event information, caching lists and your limited edition Maple Leaf Geotrackables, and GeoWoodstock XVIII Ball hat.

There is a rumour that some local geocachers call these hats “The lucky GeoWoodstock hat”. We are not so sure about the “lucky” part, but why risk it? Its fashionable, priced right and would look great on you!
