Late Wed afternoon (May 27) the executive received an email from a member stating that sometime on Tues (May 26) he inadvertently stumbled across an index of files on our website. Using the method described by the member we were able to access an index of pdf files that were uploaded to be shared with website users. We have closed access to that part of the website.
More worrisome is that he also drew attention to the fact that the website user list could be accessed by other website users. We were unaware that it was possible for the general users to access this information. We have disabled access to this. Temporarily, no one can make changes to their information on the website. If a user needs to amend their email address or other information, please send us a message on our contact form.
The executive takes privacy issues very seriously. We apologize to our members and website users for this breach of privacy.Read More »

About the Campout
The BC Geocaching Association will be holding the first of what we hope will be an annual camping event. This year’s campout is at Eagle Island Resort on Lac Des Roches off Highway 24 in the Cariboo, 1 hour and 15 minute drive north west of Kamloops. The turnoff is located 35 km west of Little Fort, and 62 km east of Highway 97 at 93 mile – look for the large sign. There is a beach and boat rentals available at the resort. This would make a nice stopover if you are heading to Westcan 5 in Dauphin, MB.
The BCGA has reserved a limited number of tent and serviced RV sites for 2 nights, July 10th and 11th. We have planned a few activities but the idea is to relax and enjoy the great outdoors with fellow geocachers.Read More »

We are excited to announce that the contest winning pathtag design by SoobaxM is now in production. It is expected to arrive in approximately 8 weeks and will be available for purchase ($4/each) at that time.
Thanks for your patience while we did the research and started over from the ground up to build a new website. Yes, it looks pretty basic right now but more content and bigger bells and whistles will be coming soon.
The old website was a labour of love created by Henry Kamstra, _canadianbacon_ when the Society first started. The website was written from scratch. Everything was custom coded. That meant that we got exactly what we wanted from the website. We were spoiled by Henry. He continued to maintain the website – writing the code for Bingo over the course of a weekend, answering calls of “can we do . . .”, and fixing things that broke when our archaic code was messed with. He wrote from scratch a state of the art electronic voting system. More than once we had to contact him while he was on holiday to save our bacon (pun intended). He also spent an enormous amount of time writing an update of the website to drag it into the next generation. For various reasons that was never implemented. Finally we reached a point where the website was broken and it could not be fixed. A review of the “website in waiting” determined that it too was way behind the times and it would be time consuming to bring it up to date, requiring almost a complete rewrite. Our hats are off to Henry for his amazing work over the years. THANKS.
One thing you will notice immediately is that there is a cleaner, fresher look to the website. It is also optimized so that it will display properly in your mobile devices. From an admin point of view it is far more user friendly. That should mean more content more often.
We hope you like it. . .
We are proud to unveil our 10 Years! Geocoin. The coin features our 10 Year design on one side and a tribute to the first cache placed in British Columbia on the other. There is only one version available for purchase, in a beautiful antique silver finish. They are available for $13.00 each or $25.00 for two, plus shipping. There are limited numbers of these coins and they are now available for preorder. They are in production and should be ready to ship in early January.
UPDATE Due to quality control problems at the factory, we rejected our coin order and requested it to be redone. Some imperfections were minor (a small dent on the side of the coin), some were totally unacceptable. The proof coins we received did not have any of these imperfections. The same tracking numbers will be used on the replacement coins.
Through this happy accident we will offer a 2nd coin with the same tracking number for only $5.00. This will allow a purchaser to keep one in their collection, and send the “proxy” coin out to the world. We will only release coins with minor imperfections, the rest will be destroyed.
The good news is that anyone who preordered the coins will have the proxy coin included free with their order.
Order yours today! Fill out the 2014 Geocoin Order Form then save and submit via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Payment can be made by cheque via mail, or to our paypal account email@example.com.Read More »
